Dr Katrin Heeskens

I am born in 1975, I live in Bad Liebenzell with my husband and three children. I am a trained nurse with many years of professional experience, particularly in oncological and hematological care, developmental aid and international disaster relief. I hold a Bachelor's degree in Applied Health Sciences and a Master's degree in Management of Health and Social Institutions. I completed my doctorate in the field of health services research at FAU Nürnberg-Erlangen.
Since 2013, I amworking at the DHBW in Stuttgart, where I am is Head of the formal education program at the Health Sciences & Management Study Center, and Managing Director of the DHBW's Health Advisory Commission. I am playing a key role in the conception and development of the career-integrated Applied Nursing Science degree program at the DHBW Stuttgart. The academization of nursing professionals is a topic very close to my heart. Before I started working at the DHBW I worked three years in Kenya as the health coordinator in Isiolo and I have some experience in working with the international red cross in emergency situations.

Research areas:   Her work focuses on service and tourism management, marketing and qualitative social research, and she teaches and researches at the interface between tourism, government and policy. Her research focuses on issues of resilience and sustainability in tourism, international development cooperation and various aspects of tourism policy, planning and governance in destinations. She is also interested in the impact of government regulation and bureaucracy on businesses.
